598,00 €
Acude a un centro para la toma de muestra

Do you have trouble sleeping and want to know if your biological rhythm is disrupted? This study analyzes melatonin, the hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle, to assess whether your circadian rhythm is functioning properly or if there is an imbalance that could affect your sleep, energy, or overall well-being.

¿Dónde se realiza?

We explain how it works — it’s very simple:
1.-Buy your test online: once the payment is completed, you will receive a confirmation email and the invoice in your email inbox.
2.-Go to your nearest center: with your confirmation email or invoice (you can show it on your phone), come to any of our Laboratorio Echevarne centers. No appointment is required.
3.-Pick up your kit and take the test at home: we will give you a kit with everything you need and very simple instructions so you can take the sample yourself, in privacy and without rush.
4.-Return the sample to the Laboratorio Echevarne center.

Descripción

Melatonin is a hormone produced by the body, and its main function is to regulate the sleep-wake cycle, also known as the circadian rhythm. When it gets dark, your body starts producing more melatonin, which helps you fall asleep. When it becomes light in the morning, production decreases, helping you stay awake and alert.
Besides sleep, melatonin also influences other body functions such as mood, the immune system, appetite, and body temperature. Some people have disruptions in melatonin production (for example, due to stress, excessive screen use, or time zone changes), which can affect their sleep quality and overall health.
This test measures your melatonin levels in saliva during the night to assess if your "biological clock" is out of sync. Detecting a disruption in your circadian rhythm is the first step to correcting it and drastically improving your sleep quality.

¿Cómo funciona?

Preguntas frecuentes

Why is melatonin measured at night?

Melatonin is known as the "darkness hormone." Your body naturally produces it when there is no light to signal that it's time to sleep. Measuring its levels at different points during the night allows us to see if your production follows the correct rhythm: if it starts to rise at the right time, if it reaches a sufficient peak to maintain sleep, and if it decreases in the morning so you wake up energized.

Will this test help me if I have sleep apnea?

This test does not diagnose sleep apnea, which is a respiratory disorder. However, poor rest caused by apnea can disrupt your hormonal rhythms, including melatonin and cortisol. If you suspect you have apnea (loud snoring, pauses in breathing, extreme daytime sleepiness), you should consult a sleep specialist. This melatonin test can be a useful complement to assess your overall circadian rhythm.

What is "chronodisruption" and how do I know if I have it?

Chronodisruption is simply a mismatch of your internal biological clock. It occurs when your lifestyle goes against your natural rhythms. The most common symptoms are: difficulty sleeping at night, daytime sleepiness, constant fatigue, mood swings, and sugar cravings. If you work shifts, travel frequently (jet lag), or use screens late at night, it is very likely that your rhythm is disrupted.

Does using a mobile phone or tablet before sleeping affect melatonin?

Yes, and very significantly. The blue light emitted by screens (mobile phones, tablets, computers, televisions) tricks your brain into thinking it is still daytime. This inhibits the production of melatonin and delays the signal that it is time to sleep, making it harder to fall asleep and worsening its quality.

Si my melatonin levels are low, is the solution to take a supplement?

It can be part of the solution, but it is not always the only answer. Low levels may indicate that you need to adjust your habits (such as exposing yourself more to natural light in the morning and reducing artificial light at night). The results of this test will provide your doctor with the necessary information to decide if a melatonin supplement is suitable for you, at what dose, and when to take it to resynchronize your biological clock.

What is the difference between this test and the stress test, if both are done with saliva and measure hormones?

Although both use saliva, they measure different pieces of the puzzle of your well-being. The Stress Test focuses on the stress axis (cortisol and DHEA) throughout the day to assess your level of fatigue and exhaustion. The Sleep Test focuses on melatonin during the night to specifically analyze your circadian rhythm and the quality of your rest. They often complement each other, as high cortisol at night can inhibit melatonin and cause insomnia.
