Melatonin is a hormone produced by the body, and its main function is to regulate the sleep-wake cycle, also known as the circadian rhythm. When it gets dark, your body starts producing more melatonin, which helps you fall asleep. When it becomes light in the morning, production decreases, helping you stay awake and alert.
Besides sleep, melatonin also influences other body functions such as mood, the immune system, appetite, and body temperature. Some people have disruptions in melatonin production (for example, due to stress, excessive screen use, or time zone changes), which can affect their sleep quality and overall health.
This test measures your melatonin levels in saliva during the night to assess if your "biological clock" is out of sync. Detecting a disruption in your circadian rhythm is the first step to correcting it and drastically improving your sleep quality.
