Virology, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics
The aim of the Virology, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics unit is to offer an integrated service in the different fields of action in terms of the interpretation of results and scientific advice.
In the clinical area, the Unit offers the necessary tools to different specialists for the diagnosis, monitoring and evolution of a wide panel of infectious pathologies, as well as the genetic study of certain autoimmune diseases.
Analytical Techniques
- Polymerase chain reaction (PCR):
Massive amplification of specific DNA sequences; in conventional PCR, the analysis of the amplified product is at the end of the reaction. - Real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR):
In real-time PCR, amplification and detection processes take place simultaneously, in the same closed vial, without the need for any further action.
Fields of action
- Detection, identification and quantification of viral and bacterial pathogenic microorganisms
- Sex determination in birds
